For many years, fur has been fashionable. If you ask your grandmother, she probably wore fur when she was younger. Fur is timeless and has no age. Some of us, however, are incredibly fortunate to have inherited a priceless fur coat from our parents or grandparents. At the same time, others might be able to purchase a respectable, high-quality vintage fur coat from Haute acorn’s vintage fur collection. In either case, it’s always satisfying to get home and securely hang a special vintage item. Therefore, if your grandma passed down vintage fur to you, it will always hold a special place in your heart because of the love and affection it inspired. But what can you do with your vintage fur coat? Here are some tips.

Store it correctly

Whatever happens, you must ensure that you are taking good care of the coat by preserving it. If it’s taken care of, fur can last 100 years, but if it’s not, it can lose its suppleness and color, molt, or worse, it can fall prey to the dreaded moth! Put a moth-repellent tag on the hanger and keep your coat in a dry, cool place in the closet. Don’t store the coat in a plastic bag because it needs to be able to breathe. If you have a moth problem, you should move the coat out of harm’s way and keep it in a safe room until the problem is handled.

Keep it clean

If your new fur appears obviously unclean or has an unpleasant odor, like that of smoke, you should clean it to get rid of anything that can harm it in the long run. Fur requires specialized cleaning because if it is handled improperly, the skin and fur could be permanently injured. Finding a nearby furrier and asking them to handle the cleaning is your best bet. It won’t be inexpensive, but it will make sure the fur is preserved in the best possible way. For more tips, read our previous article https://www.hauteacorn.com/clean-care-fur-coat/

Remodel it

If you simply aren’t happy with the fit or look of the coat, you should think to consider remodeling it to make something you will enjoy wearing. To accommodate a smaller frame, coats might be shortened and made smaller. Alternately, the sleeves can be cut off to produce a gilet or shortened to create a jacket in a different design. It will be a custom order, therefore you will need to find a furrier to complete it for you. Request a price estimate in advance, and then plan on a fitting to make sure the revised coat fits you like a glove.
